For Initial Licensure
All physician assistants must complete a two (2) hour course relating to prevention of medical errors for initial licensure.
For Renewal of License Following Your First Biennium
All physician assistants must complete:
- 97 hours of general continuing medical education (CME) or current NCCPA certification which can substitute for the 97 general CME courses
- A one (1) hour course of category I, AMA approved, HIV/AIDS
- A two (2) hour course in Preventing Medical Errors
For Renewal of License Following Your First Biennium
All physician assistants must complete:
- 98 hours of general CME or current NCCPA certification which can substitute for the 98 general CME courses
- Every third biennium, a two (2) hour course in Domestic Violence must be completed as part of the 98 hours of general CME. Note: Physician Assistants renewing on January 31, 2008 will be required to complete the two (2) hour course in Domestic Violence in the two years prior to renewal in 2012.
- A two (2) hour course in Preventing Medical Errors
- In addition to the above, prescribing physician assistants must complete 10 hours of CME in each specialty area of the supervising physician. These hours are inclusive of the general CME hours.
Physician Assistants must complete a total of 100 CME course hours during the previous two years (between February 1st of the even year through January 31st of the next even year) or document that the licensee is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) at the time of renewal.
