How to Become Licensed in Another State

For Clinical Social Workers

  • Go to http://www.aswb.org
  • Click on Licensing Requirements
  • Click on Social Work Laws and Regulations Comparison Guide
  • Under the drop down box, click on the state you are interested in. 
  • Scroll down and click on Summaries of Individual Jurisdictions

For Marriage and Family Therapists

  • Go to http://www.aamft.org
  • Under Online Directories, click on MFT State Licensure Boards. 
  • Scroll down and click on the state you are interested int.  You will find basic information and a direct link to the state board website and a contact person.

For Mental Health Counselors

  • Go to http://www.nbcc.org
  • Click on “State Counselor Licensure”
  • Click on “state credentialing boards list”
  • Click on the state you are interested in.  You will find basic information and a direct link to the state board website and contact person.
