Program Information

The Obesity Prevention Program at the Florida Department of Health was created in 2001 to address the rising level of overweight and obesity among Floridians. This program is made up of components that reflect the risk factors for obesity or areas of focus for the Department of Health. These components include:

Nutrition
Physical Activity
Worksite Wellness
Youth

The Obesity Prevention Program also works to implement initiatives on behalf of the Governor of Florida and the state Surgeon General. These initiatives include:

The Florida Department of Health, Obesity Prevention Program was appropriated 2.5M during Florida's 2006 Legislative Session for a 'Hispanic Obesity Prevention and Education' (HOPE) program. For more information about HOPE please visit www.floridahope.org.
