Adult Hepatitis Vaccination & Testing Program

The Florida Hepatitis Prevention Program has provided funding to six counties (Broward, Collier, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Pinellas and Polk) for the provision of comprehensive hepatitis services to residents at increased risk for hepatitis A, B and/or C. Components of these services include: a) enhanced surveillance; b) education of the public and health care providers; c) immunization against hepatitis A and B; d) targeted interventions; e) screening and testing for chronic hepatitis B and C and; f) epidemiologic investigations.

In March 2001, the Florida Hepatitis Program was expanded to make hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccines available in all counties at no cost to adults at increased risk for hepatitis or the serious consequences of hepatitis. The expanded Program also provided chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C testing for adults at increased risk for hepatitis or the serious consequences of hepatitis.

Limited funding was initiated for three additional county hepatitis programs (Escambia, Lee and Seminole) beginning in October 2001; and in July 2005, four more counties received limited funding (Alachua, Bay, Okeechobee and Palm Beach).
