About Us
The Offices of Public Health Preparedness (PHP) and Emergency Operations (OEO) coordinate resources, planning and response activities to protect the public health of Florida citizens from man-made and naturally-occurring disasters.
From responding to disasters to creating resources like the Family Preparedness Guide
PDF (30 pages/ 698.91kb), the goal of PHP and OEO are to ensure
Florida is prepared for, can respond to, and
recover from a bioterrorism event, outbreak of infectious disease or other
public health emergency.
Flu Season: Don't Get Caught
The single best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated each year. Your commitment is essential in the prevention of flu for yourself and those you are in contact with. For more information or for Florida-specific posters and other materials, please visit www.immunizeflorida.org/flu.
County Health Departments (CHDs) can also order a variety of brochures
(pdf. 251.94kb)on flu
prevention in English, Spanish and Creole from the Florida Department of Health warehouse. PHP will cover the cost of mailing these
publications from the warehouse to the CHDs. For more information, contact 850-245-4128.
Department Looking for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
The events of 9/11 and Florida hurricanes made it clear that a quick and effective health and medical response is key to protecting Florida citizens and visitors.
During 2007 -2010, PHP and OEO will work with subject matter experts across the state to improve Florida's health and medical preparedness
and response to disasters. Those who would like to participate in this strategic planning process are encouraged to
review the teams

Strategic Planning
PHP and OEO use a strategic planning process that centers around five goals and seventeen objectives to meet national and state domestic security priorities that increase the health and medical preparedness and response in Florida.
Our 2007-2010 Strategic Plan
zip (37 pages/ 8.44MB) outlines these activities and provides a roadmap for the
numerous and diverse partners involved in Florida's effort. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's National Preparedness Guidelines
PDF (51 pages/ 559.76KB) and Target Capabilities
PDF (590 pages/ 4.19MB) also provide national guidance.
Partners:
PHP and OEO are part of the Division of Emergency Medical Operations and work closely with department bureaus and offices. Key partners also include the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and County Health Departments.
Funding
Preparedness and response activities are funded in part by cooperative grant agreements with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Health Resource Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). PHP oversees the implementation of these agreements and provides grant management and funding administration.
