All patients are referred to A. G.
Holley State Hospital through one of the 67 county health departments. Patients
remain at the hospital anywhere from 4 to 18 months, depending on the severity of their
infection and complicating factors, like mental illness, cancer, MDR, HIV, cirrhosis,
substance abuse, etc. Some patients are committed to the hospital by court

The
hospital offers its patients a full array of multidisciplinary therapeutic services,
including medical, surgical, psychiatric, behavioral, nutritional and substance abuse
treatments.
The hospital cures over 90% of all tuberculosis patients admitted,
including those who are multi-drug resistant. Once a patient has
completed their course of therapy, they return to their home county.
The local health department provides continuing follow-up to prevent
reinfection.
